This series was entirely about exploration: Exploration of tool, exploration of composition, exploration of freedom. The early pieces were in grayscale.

Experienced Photoshop and Painter users can see pretty clearly the approach I was taking. Each of these images began as a full-color realistic image, which I transformed by means of software exploration.

It's pretty overwhelming when one considers the infinite number of approaches that are possible with digital media. The challenge is to establish some standards of evaluation to help remove the slick image of computer-generated art.

Like most new media throughout art history, digital art is struggling to convince the so-called "high" art world that this is work worthy of attention.

A successful work, in my opinion, is a work that breathes. Whether the images are intense, serene, allegorical...whatever - a work that is successfully composed seems to have a life of its own.

Personally, subtle, emotional images move me most. Ironically, I also find analytical pieces based purely on idea equally as moving - but they're not necessarily different, are they?
